For many teenagers, babysitting is their first job. It is hard sometimes to know how to find a babysitter job. Below are some basics to help find a babysitter job:
Network: Ask everyone you know if they are looking for a babysitter or know someone that is. A good reference can go a long way when trying to find a babysitter job. After you have secured one or two clients ask them to refer you to their friends to help you find more babysitter jobs.
Pay: When trying to find a babysitter job it is important to know the going rate for a babysitter. You don't want to ask too much, or too little. Ask around to find some reasonable babysitting rates.
Advertise: You have to let your neighborhood know that you are trying to find a babysitter job. Post flyers, run newspaper ads, talk to you neighbors and let them know you are searching for a babysitter job.
Cover the Basics: It is important to know exactly what job you will be doing when you are babysitting. You should be interviewing the family while they are interviewing you! Here are some questions to ask when looking to find a babysitter job: How many children will I be watching, do you have any pets and what needs to be done to take care of them, what will be my pay, what are you policies answering the phone/door, where are the emergency numbers kept, do the kids have any special medical needs, should I bring my own snacks?.
